Before the big boxy taxi, Checker made the Model A, here is a photo with a 1940 example

  1. These are actually much larger than the Checker A-11 taxi we remember. Prior to the mid 1950s NYC required cabs be purpose built. Chrysler had a Desoto model and Checker these behemoth. In about 54 the law change , requiring a max wheelbase of 120".
    My 1971 A-12 is shorter than a 2-door Mercedes 450 SLC!
