the only 428 Cobra Jet powered drag pack 1969 Mustang Grande, and it was being sold in a used car lot when found, completely original

the full story is at http://www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/mump-0901-1969-mustang-grande-hardtop/  but basically, the owner is a Mustang collector and in 1989 was out looking for a newer Mustang when he checked out this one and saw the Q code in the VIN

  1. I don’t know if this is a good or a bad thing, but you haven’t been able to buy a car like this in about 30 years. (At least not GM vehicles with which I am most familiar.) Nowadays, most options come in packages, some options require that you get one or more other options, and many options are not available with certain other options.

This prevents car buyers from selecting weird or counterproductive option combinations and makes used car buying a little easier since you can pretty much count on certain cars having certain options, but it also killed off unique cars like the one your post. That car is a good example of the rarity/desirability/value equation. The car is certainly rare. In fact, it is the only one exactly like it, ever made. A red sports roof with that engine and transmission is certainly less rare, but it is also more valuable. Desirability is if every bit as much part of the value equation as rarity, if not more so.
