a farmers Model T with a Staude Make-a-Tractor conversion with optional cooling fan.


Traces of Texas reader Blake Cathey generously shared this photo of his great grandfather, Jim Land, who owned a car dealership in Childress during the early 1900s. Here he is in his "auto-tractor." This was taken in (roughly) 1915 or so. Jim's father, Rufus Land, fought at Gettysburg, surrendered at Appomattox, and brought his family to Texas from Georgia in 1887.
