the latest cool motorcycle creation, the AWD Hydrostatic diesel motorbike by Dan Smith

  1. More appropriately titled: "If Rube Goldberg Made a Motorcycle". Hydrostatic drive? I have a hard time thinking of a worse way to propel a bike. Hydrostats are wonderful for low speed and constant direction changes, (think skid loaders) but are less than ideal for continuous high speed operation, like, say, with a motorcycle, for example, where quick acceleration and high speeds are desirable to most consumers. Continuous high speed operation of hydrostatic drives produces a tremendous amount of heat, and if you don't believe me, check out a bat wing mower with hydrostatic blade drives that has been running for about an hour. You won't want to even get near 'em.

  2. Neil Schnurr forgot to point out the seating position (bit low), the car tyres (not ideal for cornering), and the environmentally questionable exhaust smoke.
