Salute of the day to the many CHP officers who achieve the 10851 pin and 23152 pin in recognition of their outstanding job performance finding stolen cars, and arresting drunk drivers

The California Vehicle Code section number 10851 is titled: "Theft and Unlawful Taking or Driving of a Vehicle."  It is also referred to as auto theft, vehicle theft, grand theft auto, "a stolen", and a few other slang terms.

More vehicles are stolen in Los Angeles County than in many other States. Very few stolen cars are ever recovered, so to recognize the efforts of those CHP Officers who are especially outstanding, and ever recover a stolen car, the CHP established a special award. This award is called the "10851 pin."

There are several different levels of the award; but, they all look somewhat like a California license plate with the numbers 10851 on it. The award is for finding six different stolen vehicles in 12 months or 3 operators of "rolling stolens" with their stolen vehicle, and 9 abandoned stolen vehicles. When they have accomplished this difficult task five times, they are given the "Master 10851" pin.

White Pins are given for the 1st through 4th awards only.  Blue Pins are Master Level Awards, given for the 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th awards only.

California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a) VC: Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol

To be eligible for the MADD 23152 pin, an officer must have made at least 50 DUI arrests during a one year period if they are in a large city, 25 for small municipalities

The pin is red to symbolize MADD’s mission, to represent the victims of impaired driving crashes, and more specifically for peace officers, to memorialize and honor those peace officers who have been injured and killed in impaired driving collisions.

Riverside County sheriff’s deputy Eric Robinson assigned to a motorcycle DUI patrol in Moreno Valley from 2007 to 2013, and each year Robinson led ALL county law enforcement officers in the number of DUI arrests.

He served eight years on active and reserve duty in the Marines, and from there he joined the Beaumont Police Department in 1999.  The Sheriff’s Department hired Robinson in 2005

Robinson made 1,579 DUI arrests from 2007 to 2013.
